The Start of the Difference

The partnership with the Independence Bowl began in 2017, when the foundation was searching for a new agency to propel the community event forward into new realms of success. Hired, in part, based on open communication and transparency, KSM is entrenched in the inner-workings of the Independence Bowl and immensely invested in its success as proud members of the Shreveport-Bossier community. KSM Owner, Cindy Smith, has since become a member of the Executive Committee, serving as Secretary for the foundation.

Branding

Kalmbach Smith Meadows creative team worked with the Foundation to establish stronger brand equity with a design that would transition and connect with the title sponsor logo. The title sponsor logo for the Bowl Game is a uniquely fun and challenging design build to respect the essence of the sponsor logo while marrying it to the Bowl's patriotic identity. Challenge accepted and met!

Television Production & Placement

Speaking to the masses, television is one of the most effective media outlets for the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl due to its reach and visually-enhanced delivery. Placement is a targeted effort to capture a viewing audience of sports enthusiasts, but also individuals and families that appreciate the heritage of the community event. Message strategy is themed annually and boosts ticket sales and the game’s matchup. The agency creates a hi-def commercial in various formats to suit each platform’s viewing specifications.

OOH Advertising/Billboards

Similar to television, the Kalmbach Smith Meadows design team creates billboards that are evergreen in promoting specific events or promotions, including the gameday matchup, ticket sales, and any surrounding events. Billboard placement is structured for widespread exposure, including interstate and suburbia placement to capture the attention of both I-20 travelers and urban dwellers in premium locations throughout the area.

Social Media Management

The Independence Bowl Foundation promotes events throughout the year leading up to the big Game Day activities and matchup. Kalmbach Smith Meadows partners with the Bowl staff to manage the social media page content in weekly schedules and also real-time on-site play-by-play during the peak activities of game week. Since the agency has been involved, the page has seen relevant, organic growth and become more of a real-time communicative tool to keep the community abreast of the college game day activities.

Media Buying

For this client, the media buying is a unique situation in that a large percentage of the buys made on behalf of the Bowl are trade-based. The agency media team meets with all local media and the Bowl staff to negotiate annual trade contracts, which are then executed by the agency with specified insertion orders and post-audit analysis. Situations that are unique to the client can either be the inhibition that prevents true nurturing of agency-to-client partnerships, or in the case of Kalmbach Smith Meadows, it can be a way to show the willingness to cooperate with the circumstances in the best interest of the client.
